New research suggests that eating more strawberries and blueberries may help women lower their risk of a heart attack. The study followed more than 93,000 women (ages 25 – 42) for 18 years and found that the women who ate more than three half-cup servings of these fruits a week were at a 32% lower risk of heart attack compared to those who ate fewer servings. It’s not often that we get some good news from out in The Gap™, but this new research was encouraging. According to the market research firm NPD, over the course of a year, Americans snacked on fresh fruit an average of 10 times more than they snacked on chocolate and 25 times more than they snacked on potato chips. (Fresh fruit, chocolate, and potato chips were the top three snack foods identified in the report.) Read more…
