Let’s Move: Eat more fruits and veggies!

Posted on March 22nd, 2010

Lets MoveFirst Lady Michelle Obama’s new initiative, Let’s Move, calls for a new awareness of the things we can do to help end the epidemic of childhood obesity in our country. The web site includes information and resources for parents, educators and community leaders to do their part in making this initiative a success.

Earlier we posted about maintaining a healthy BMI, or Body Mass Index, as a way to role model healthy behavior for you children. An important part of any healthy diet is eating more fruits and vegetables.  Learning to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.  Keeping fruits and veggies in your home, incorporating them into meals and packing them for your kids to take to school for snacks benefits the entire family, and in a hectic world, it takes some creative thinking and lots of planning to make it happen. It’s worth it and it will set your children up for healthy habits as they get older.

Our HMR at Home® members already know that with the structure of the Healthy Solutions diet, adding fruits and vegetables can be more convenient than a fast-food drive-through. Pair vegetables with your favorite entrée or fruit with a shake or two and you’ve got a “fast food” option that lets you feel good about your health!

What’s your winning strategy for including fruits and veggies for you and your children?
