A major component of Michelle Obama’s new Let’s Move initiative is physical activity for the family. Finding time to exercise is a challenge for everyone, so it’s important to start out slowly by building consistency and momentum so that physical activity becomes a non-negotiable part of your day. It might seem insignificant, but you can start building your physical activity momentum by committing to a minimum of ten minutes of walking every single day. If you can’t find ten minutes for physical activity then you’re not likely going to be able to schedule in an hour at the gym. Plus, it’s easier to talk yourself out of an hour, but if you give yourself permission to start with just ten minutes at a time, you’ll find yourself automatically doing more.
Find ten minutes in your day where you can be more active, maybe by waking up ten minutes earlier for a walk or walking during your lunch break. Find ten minutes to be active with your children and add that in. Once you’re looking for opportunities to be active, you’ll be surprised at how much easier it is to fit it in.
