Let’s Move: Maintaining a Healthy BMI

We recently posted on First Lady Michelle Obama’s new initiative to tackle the problem of childhood obesity called Let’s Move. If you’ve been thinking about ways to have a positive impact on your child’s health, maintaining a healthy BMI is a great place to start.

BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a tool used to indicate risk for disease based on weight and height. Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese and those with a BMI of 25 to 29 are considered overweight and at risk for diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. What’s your BMI? Check out these BMI calculator’s from the CDC.gov website:

  2. Calculate your child’s BMI at http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/
