Look for the heaviest melons with firm skins and sunspots, light areas that are gold in color. Remember that the seeds give the melon sweetness; therefore the seedless varieties will not be as sugary.

Selection and Storage:
- Look for a firm and symmetrical melon with a healthy sheen and a buttery yellow underside (from where it has touched the ground) that is heavy for the size. Avoid watermelon with pale green or white color undersides and those that contain cracks, bruises or soft spots.
- Uncut watermelon can be stored for up to 2 weeks at room temperature. Cut pieces should be refrigerated.
