Spinach

Posted on February 11th, 2009

Spinach can be found fresh, frozen and canned and is a great source of Iron and Vitamins A and C!

Nutrition Facts:

  • Iron
  • Vitamin A and Vitamin C
  • 40 calories per serving (1 cup)

Selection and Storage:

  • Fresh spinach is usually found loose or bagged. For the best quality, select leaves that are green and crisp, with a nice fresh fragrance. Avoid leaves that are limp, damaged, or spotted.
  • If you are in a rush, grab a bag of fresh, pre-washed spinach. Ready-to-eat packaging makes it easy to be on the go and still stay healthy.

Preparation Tips:

Spinach is great mixed with several HMR Entrées – simply stir the warmed entrée into a bowl of fresh spinach, cover with plastic wrap and heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Try it out with these HMR Entrées:

For a great recipe with spinach, try the Spinach Risotto with Braised Fennel!
