Who We Are

The Institute for Health Maintenance (IHM) is a medically-supervised weight loss and weight management center located in San Diego, CA. Established in 1979, the Institute for Health Management (IHM) was the first VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) program in San Diego to offer rapid and reliable weight loss and long-term weight maintenance.

In 1984, IHM forged a relationship with Health Management Resources™ (HMR®). HMR specializes in professional programs for weight and health management as well as exceptional-tasting nutritional products. Today IHM offers many of the HMR meal replacement products as a cornerstone of the IHM weight loss programs.

Over the past 25 years, IHM has evolved into a sophisticated weight management center that has helped thousands of San Diegans lose weight. Participants have ranged from those with modest weight loss goals, to individuals who have needed to lose hundreds of pounds. Some clients have selected IHM as a preventive step in their health care regimen or as intervention to an existing health problem. The majority of IHM clients have initially participated in the program on the recommendation of their primary care medical providers or joined the program because they have seen their coworkers, friends, and family members successfully achieve and maintain their weight-loss goals.
